Where does the goldfish bowl come from…Blog #Week 8 Chung Ling Soo

Blog #8 After a short week’s rest, Im back baby! Welcome to my blog, where I share my love for live entertainment and crazy stories from my past.

Showbiz Tip of the Week #8 from my DEAR friend Dave O Connell“Be yourselfpeople don’t like false people”

Here’s one of magic’s greatest secrets: remember the name Chung Ling Soo. His revolutionary work transformed the world of illusion and my approach to magic. This enigmatic magician captivated global audiences with his exotic Chinese persona and dazzling illusions until his career ended dramatically in 1918 with a tragic bullet catch trick failure.
Chung Ling Soo’s story is brilliantly portrayed in “The Prestige,” a cinematic masterpiece I adore. Despite his Chinese persona, he wasn’t Chinese—his elaborate ruse, supported by his “Chinese” wife, was his greatest trick. If you’re into magic, study his work to grasp the essence of real magic. Convincing the world he was something he was not—that is a true genius.

Here’s the clip with Huge Jackman and Christian Bale discussing Chung Ling Soo…. Where did the golf fish bowl come from?..

Here’s a massive shout-out to one of my greatest influences, friends, and mentors: Dave O Connell. A master entertainer, he had audiences every night howling with laughter and singing until the roof nearly blew off. I first met Dave during a sound check and witnessed a true professional at work. As the headlining cabaret star, he was an electrifying showman. Dave imparted invaluable lessons, and I’m profoundly grateful to have him as my closest friend.

We spent our time pulling pranks, and below is a picture that was used as the flagship company’s Christmas card that year. We were incredibly mischievous — I can’t believe I’m sharing this, but it was – 40 degrees outside! Our bosses loved it, and we got a contract extension for another 3 years! The Scandinavians are amazing people.
Dave was a master at his art, he taught me so much about SHOW BIZ!

we wouldn’t get away with half the stuff and fun we had back then today! Ps I should have hit the gym a bit earlier in my life! hah well better later than never.
